Make the most of your outdoor watering with a FREE soil moisture meter from Austin Water. These simple devices measure the relative moisture of your soils so you can decide when and where to apply supplemental water (allowed any day and time with a hand-held hose or can). Insert the meter as far as possible (gently, do not force if soil is hard), and start to learn how fast your soil absorbs water, and how long it takes to dry out. Leave it on one spot on your yard or planted beds, or move around to test several areas - with your choice of ladybug or frog designs and the easy-to-read dial, it's also great for kids in need of a back-to-school science project.
Pick up your meter between 8am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, at 625 E. 10th Street, or call 974-2199 for more information. One per customer, mailing and delivery not currently available.
With drought conditions only worsening, it's important that we use our limited water supplies sparingly, while ensuring that the trees that cool our city receive enough water. To reduce water waste and keep trees healthy, Austin Water is offering residential customers a meter attachment for garden hoses and hose-end sprinklers to measure water usage.
